Privacy policy

This policy sets out how Leadsource International Manager Limited (NZBN 9429047325371), trading as The Business of Money ("we", "us", "our") treats personal and business information when you visit this website or ask about business finance. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 2020 and its information privacy principles.

What we collect

We only gather the information that lets us make sense of your enquiry and arrange funding for your business. Depending on how far you go, that may include:

  • your name, phone number, email address and your role in the business;
  • business details such as your NZBN or company number, trading name, industry, how long you've traded, your region and turnover;
  • the amount you're looking for, the purpose and your timing;
  • details of any property you might offer as security;
  • identity documents, bank statements, financial statements, tax information and details of existing debts, including any arrears with Inland Revenue;
  • credit information, but only once you choose to go ahead; and
  • information about other people linked to the application, such as fellow directors, shareholders or guarantors.

Where it comes from

Mostly from you, through the enquiry form, by phone or by email. We also note how you reached the site (for example the first page you landed on and the page you enquired from) so we can tell which content is useful. With your authorisation we may also obtain information from credit reporters, ID-checking and bank-statement services, and public registers including the Companies Office, the NZBN register and Land Information New Zealand, and advisers you nominate, such as your accountant or lawyer.

How we use it

  • to reply to your enquiry and discuss finance options that may suit;
  • to assess your situation and place business finance with the funder that suits it, rather than circulating your details to a long list of lenders;
  • to check your identity and the information you give us;
  • to meet our legal obligations;
  • to run our business, keep records, deal with complaints and improve the website; and
  • to let you know about other business finance options that may suit you, which you can opt out of at any time.

Who we share it with

To arrange finance we may pass information to the lender and any funders on your application, related finance businesses that assess and settle business loans, credit reporters (only after you decide to proceed), verification providers, valuers for property-secured loans, professional advisers, our technology and service providers, and government agencies when legally required. Some of our providers keep data offshore; when that's the case we take reasonable steps to keep it protected to a standard comparable with New Zealand law.

Your authorisation

By sending an enquiry you authorise us to collect, use and share your information for the purposes above and to contact you by phone, text and email about it. Enquiring involves no credit check, and we'll ask you before one is run.

When you share details of another person (a fellow director or a guarantor, for example), you confirm you're allowed to and that you've told them about this policy.

Keeping it safe

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, use, change or disclosure. We keep it only as long as we need it for a lawful purpose and then take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.

Seeing or correcting your information

You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Send a request or complaint through our contact page headed "Privacy request" and we'll respond as soon as reasonably practicable. If you're unhappy with how we deal with it, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

Cookies and analytics

The site uses cookies, browser storage and analytics to see how visitors use it and make it better. You can block cookies in your browser and the site will still work.
